Dorma is a traditional style bedding which dates back to 1921 when it first originated. They keep to their traditional style in their bedding with the patterns opting for a more floral and classic look. They make high quality bed linen with a thread count of at least 200 and they use mostly soft fibres like polycotton, 100% cotton and silk in their bedding that all offer great comfort to the customer. Before every Dorma product is packaged it is carefully checked for light and colour fastness, strength, resistance to pilling(bobbling) and shrinkage; therefore you know your new Dorma bed set is going to be the best and long lasting.

There is a wide selection of Dorma bedding on our website; with up to 7 designs to choose from; 3 of which are their newest products. You’ll be sure to find the perfect luxury duvet set for your bedroom within this range!

Bed Linen: The Flat Sheet

The Flat Sheet
Custom Flat Sheets

Remember Goldilocks and her adventures with the Three Bears? She broke into the bears’ home, ate their dinner, rested in their chairs, and finally fell asleep in the bed of the Baby Bear. Wonder if it had anything to do with the sheets? I’d be willing to bet she was sleeping in a custom made bed with a fitted sheet that stayed on the mattress and a flat sheet that was the proper size.
Flat sheets, also known as “top sheets” are exactly that–a sheet that lays on top of the fitted sheet covering the bed mattress and you sleep between the two. Of the two types of bed sheets available, the flat sheet is the more versatile as it can be used as a bottom sheet in addition to its normal purpose as a top sheet. Like fitted sheets, they are available in single, double, king, or super king sizes. A super king size flat sheet fits a 6′ 6″ bed quite nicely.
Beds in sizes other than those mentioned above are classified as “outsized.” They are usually custom made and can be either larger than a super king bed or much smaller than a single bed. You might be able to use standard flat sheets on some custom beds, but this, too, can present problems. If the sheet is too small, you won’t be able to tuck it in properly, meaning you will most likely find yourself sleeping on a bare mattress! If the sheet is too big, that could also create uncomfortable sleeping conditions in addition to making for a very sloppy bed! Neither is an acceptable option.
Fortunately, you can have custom sheets made for any size bed. They will look great, fit beautifully, and be more apt to stay in place. Custom bed sheets can be made in a number of fabrics, from flannel to silk, and are available in a wide array of colours.
Before placing an order for custom made bed sheets, it is of the utmost importance to accurately measure the mattress length, width, and height. You will want to make sure that there will be enough fabric to tuck under the mattress to keep the sheet in place.
When making the bed, start with placing the fitted sheet on the mattress, smoothing it out as much as possible. Then, the top for flat sheet is added. The wide hem of the sheet is placed at the head of the bed. If there is a design on only one side of the hem, place the sheet so the design is facing down toward the mattress. Spread the flat sheet over the bed, keeping the length of sheet hanging over the sides as even as possible. Tuck the bottom edge under the mattress and make hospital corners.
Place a blanket over the sheet. The top of the blanket should be placed approximately 8″ from the top of the sheet. Tuck the bottom edge of the blanket under the mattress and make hospital corners for it. Now, fold the top edge of the flat sheet over the top edge of the blanket. The finished side of the flat sheet is now showing. Place the duvet over all, add pillows, and you’re done!
Please remember that when you order custom made sheets, they are created one at a time to your specifications, so be sure to allow extra time for your order to be processed. It will be well worth the wait when you sleep in your perfectly made bed with sheets that fit. Like Goldilocks, you’ll know that your bed is “just right.”

How do I wash & Protect My Duvet?

A duvet needs a Duvet Cover
Duvet Covers are great at looking after your duvet.

Look after your duvet with these handy washing and duvet cover tips.

Now that you’ve found the perfect duvet or quilt, it’s important to know how to properly care for it. Like any investment you want to get the most benefit out of your purchase. Proper care and a good duvet cover will prolong its usefulness with the result being that you will realize the benefits over many years to come.

Washing your duvet

The duvet should be cleaned according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Always read the label and follow the directions. Today, there are duvets that can be machine washed and dried. These are usually made with a man-made fillings of some sort. It’s best to use a commercial washer and dryer for this purpose because duvets are bulky and may, simply, not fit in a home washer or dryer.

Naturally filled duvets, such as Goose Down or Duck Feather, are the more difficult to clean. Again, they are usually too bulky for most home washers, and using a tumble dryer on a high heat can damage the filling (feathers and down deteriorate when exposed to heat.) If you look around online hand washing your duvet or quilt in a large sink or a bathtub is one suggested solution.  This issue then arises of how to dry it as air drying might be problematic if you don’t have the room to hang it up.

Duvets must be thoroughly dried because damp filling can mildew and mold and no one wants that to happen! It’s best to have your duvet professionally dry cleaned or professionally laundered. The good news is, that if you properly care for the duvet, professional cleaning will rarely be necessary. Many manufacturers recommend a professional cleaning at least once every five years. But, that requires proper care.

Find the Right Duvet Cover

So, how do you protect your investment? What’s the best way to care for a duvet? More good news! It’s easy. The best, most cost effective, way to protect your duvet is to use a duvet cover.  I’m sure you will know what this is but for those who don’t it’s basically two pieces of fabric stitched together on three sides (obviously, there’s a bit more to it, but you get the idea!). The cover slides over the duvet, keeping it protected from dirt, stains, rips, and tears. These covers come in a wide selection of styles, fabrics, colors, and designs. They are available in a range of standard sizes, as well as custom made sizes to fit any duvet.

Speaking of fit, it’s a good idea to take down the measurements of your duvet when you first receive it. This way, when you’re shopping for a cover, you can be sure you’re purchasing the right size. I’ve personally had an experience with a cover that was marked as a king, but wasn’t even close!

A fun benefit of using a duvet cover is having the ability to change the decor of your room with a simple change of the cover. You can easily change the way a room “feels” without completely redecorating. Go from dark winter colors to light, bright springtime in a snap.

Unlike the duvet, the majority of covers can be put into the household washer and dryer along with your regular sheets and pillowcases. However, to be on the safe side, be sure to read the label before cleaning the cover. There are some synthetic fabrics, such as rayon, that won’t do well in the dryer. It’s best to know that beforehand.

So, simply put, get yourself a couple of beautiful duvet covers.  Its probably the best and cost effective way of looking after and protecting your duvet.

Sales of larger and outsized beds continue to grow around the world, bucking the trend of the current recession.

The individuality and luxury of having a bed that can measure over 2 metres across is something that people with enough money have found hard to resist. Bed linen manufacturer Victoria Linen Company have recognised this growing trend and as such have developed specific sections and products that are made to fit these sizes of beds perfectly. Victoria Linen Managing Director Matthew Fallon confirms, “These beds are the pinnacle of luxury in the bedroom, but bed linens for Caesarand Emperor bed sizes are incredibly hard to find, because we stock the widest rolls of cotton available we are able to produce a range of fitted larger bed sheets and covers made specifically to fit these beds”. Using the larger rolls of fabrics means products like larger fitted sheets and flat sheets can be made from one piece of material, which means the sheets aren’t made with an ugly border at the side of the mattress and also makes them much longer lasting.

Victoria Linen have gone as far as showcasing their manufactured linens in sections dedicated to these larger beds. The website www.victorialinen.co.uk has individual sections for customers with 8ft Caesar beds and 7ft Emperor beds, these cover fitted sheets, mattress protectors and other accessories such as larger duvets and longer pillows. These make up part of a niche section in the website that gives over sections to adjustable bed linens, linens for small double 4ft beds and waterbeds. The niche sections also go as far as showcasing 4 poster bed drapes made for customers with four poster beds, (and elaborate tastes!) along with drapes, bedspreads and curtains in jacquard fabrics to match.

As these niche areas in bed linen continue to grow Victoria Linen is keen to incorporate any and all beds into its product range with plans including website sections for specific large and adjustable bed companies as well as an online portal for ordering made to measure curtains.

Crush Bedding Set for Small Double Bed
Small Double Bedding Set

Small double beds have a few differing names which essentially are the same bed.  If you have a prince bed, a three quarter bed or a 4ft bed this is the same size as the small double bed. It’s size lies between that of a single (3ft) and a standard double (4’6″).

A good sleep is something that you probably can’t do without.  It can affect your mood, your reactions and your relationships.  Have a few bad nights sleep and the world can seem an irritating and frustrating place!

How bedding affects your sleep

Your may have difficulty sleeping soundly for various reasons.  Be it from stress, medical issues or that fact that your bed or bedding is just uncomfortable.
The lack of comfort is something that you can easily remedy.  Your discomfort could be a result of the quality of bedding sheets. Some sheets are very poor quality with low thread count options or have a too high mix of polyester.  Anything below a count of 150 threads to the inch could bobble and fray in a very short time while sheets with high polyester in the mix can seem rough and coarse.

Luckily, there are quality bed sheets out there for those seeking sleep and even more so with the growth of online shopping.  Quality bedding sheets can be found online at various sites. Our own website in the UK offers superb quality on a variety of sized sheets with a minimum thread count of 200 threads to the inch (commonly referred to as percale fabric).

We stock a wide variety of sizes for standard and non standard beds, including small double sheets, ideal if your bed measures 4ft across (that’s 48 inches or 122cms).

Our Sheet Fabrics

You can choose between 50/50 polyester/cotton mix, 100% Flannelette or 100% Egyptian cotton fabrics. Egyptian cotton fabric is a bit more luxurious for large sheets. However, regular cotton large sheets are very durable in strength. We sell our sheets in various styles and colours varying from 200 up to 1000 threads to the inch, which make a Small double sheet of superior comfort.
Poly Cotton bedding and 100% cotton are slightly different in feel. These two types of cotton differ in manufacturing processes. Poly cotton is a blend of different fabrics and includes cotton.
Flannelette bedding is also available for sale on the Internet. This bedding is ultra soft and provides great warmth at night. Flannelette bedding is very popular in the cooler weather months.

A Mattress Protector Thats Waterproof, Anti Allergenic and Breathable. How’s Does That Work?!

One of the problems when it comes to waterproof mattress protectors is they are also air tight, meaning that nothing gets through. While this is great for protecting your mattress from spills and keeping bed bugs and dust mites at bay it also means that once you climb in to the bed for a well earned rest air can also get caught in the bed, once this air is trapped under your duvet or bed sheets it can’t move it then becomes warm from your own body heat, this in turn can make you warm and make for an uncomfortable nights sleep. This problem can be accentuated for those who are bed ridden or have to spend long periods of time in bed, the trapped air and heat can also lead to an increase in heat and bed sores.

Victoria Linen have recently launched a mattress protector that is the perfect remedy to this situation, using TENCEL fabric they now offer a mattress protector that is waterproof, anti allergenic and breathable. TENCEL is a unique fabric, derived from wood pulp it is a 100% natural product that allows air to pass through but is anti allergenic and 100% waterproof!

As with all Victoria Linen products the protector is available for standard size beds as well as longer, larger and adjustable beds, basically any width, length or depth is available. Head over to http://www.victorialinen.co.uk/acatalog/B-Sensible_Breat … for more information or to buy online
