Not to worry, you’re not alone; read on and all will be revealed.

The most common choices for curtain fabrics are cotton,  polyester and cotton blends; but these are only a few from the many which are on offer. Voile, heavy weight, jacquard and chenille are 4 others which are very common however the technical names aren’t as well known.

Jacquard Fabric
Jacquard Fabric

Jacquard fabric is a decorative woven or knitted pattern manufactured by using the jacquard attachment on the loom. This attachment has a punch card like a piano so it offers better design versatility and fabric control. the word itself, jacquard, comes from a French inventor, Joseph Marie Jacquard, who invented aforementioned loom in 1801.

Chenille fabric is quite a thick, soft and fuzzy kind of fabric. The word chenille is the French word for caterpillar, which is why it adopted it’s name due to its fuzziness and the lengths of it do look, in fact, like a caterpillar. Depending on the type of fabric used to Create chenille, as well as the tonality of the colour, chenille can have a lovely iridescent look to it without using iridescent fabric.
