Add That Extra Special Touch To Your Bedroom!

A bedroom is a place which needs to be looked after and dressed beautifully for someone to be sleeping in there 7 nights a week, spending at least 30% of their time living in that single room.

If your bedroom was a bit of..lets say ‘a dump’, it looks like a bombs gone off; clothes everywhere, rubbish dotted around, last nights leftovers on the bed side table, would you like spending time in there surrounded by all of that? A bedroom is a place which needs looking after in order to keep you happy and let you wake up without any worries.

If the environment you sleep and stay in looks nice and is clean, it makes you generally feel happier. But every now and again you stop and look at your bedroom decor and question yourself. What is missing? There’s something needed to complete that look you want to give off. And you tell yourself that ‘wow’ factor just isn’t there.

If you agree with me then I have the answer you have been waiting for… A bedspread. It will answer all of your prayers. There are numerous ways in which you could dress a bed with a bedspread/throw as they come in different styles, shapes and sizes.

There are a variety of bedspreads which are available, all known as something different with different terminology; these are explained below.

Bedspread – a standard bedspread is typically designed to cover the whole bed from top to bottom and side to side. It is commonly placed on top of the duvet covers to add extra thickness and warmth. They can be made to fit a bed perfectly (known as a fitted bedspread) or they can be made so they just hang over the edges of the bed for you to style it with your bed how you wish too (flat bedspread).

Eiderdown – An eiderdown generally sits on top of the bed in more of a squared shape with no overhang on the edges.

Bed ThrowBed throws tend to be used best across the bottom of the bed to decorate it more, they don’t cover the bed like a bedspread would do.

Bedspreads tend to add a special touch to the bedroom. There are many varieties out there in different fabrics, colours and styles. Some come embellished with diamantes and embroidery, others come with frilled edging and rouched rolled edging, and others with ruffles and pleats.

All styles of bedspread can be made to any specific size required and are designed to your taste at Victoria Linen Company. They stock a wide range of fabrics in their showroom giving enough choice for customers to choose from but easily searching for what they want.

No matter what style or design of bedspread you choose, it will simply add glamour and luxury to your bedroom instantly.

From Bedspreads to bed Runners, Throws and Eiderdowns

It was probably from the Renaissance when bed linens were first used to not only to give warmth but also to give a decorative effect to a bed and bedroom. In those days silks and velvets were stuffed with feathers and in some cases straw to make bedding that not only trapped heat but also would be the height of luxury.

Over the years the bedspread has taken on more traditional forms, most notably in the shape of the eiderdown, where patterns would be stitched over material filled with either man made or natural fibres, the eiderdown would only cover the top of the bed leaving the sides open. More modern bedspreads are made to fit the entire bed covering the top and the sides, this can be made as a flat bed throw where a large piece of fabric is pattern matched and backed, this will cover the whole bed and can be folded back to also act as a bed runner across the foot of the bed.

Fitted Bedspreads are also popular, these are made with a piece that covers the top of the bed and then has a frill that runs around the outside and will cover the sides of the bed to the floor. A more modern take on this sort of bed decoration is the bed runner which as the name suggests runs along the foot of the bed, this is purely a decorative linen that has become more popular with the influence of hotel chic bedding.

Many examples of these types of bedspreads can be found over at victoria linen co where bespoke bedspreads are manufactured in standard and larger sizes.
