Our Google Reviews
What Is a Profiling Bed?
A profiling bed is an adjustable bed that allows different sections of the mattress platform to be raised or lowered. The head, upper body, knees or legs can usually be repositioned using an electric handset.
Profiling beds are commonly used in private homes, care settings and supported living accommodation. They may also be described as homecare beds, care beds, nursing beds, hospital-style beds, electric profiling beds or home hospital beds.
Although profiling beds move in a similar way to domestic electric adjustable beds, their mattress sizes and bedding requirements are not always the same.
What Bedding Do You Need for a Profiling Bed?
A practical profiling-bed bedding setup will usually include a secure fitted sheet, suitable mattress protection and lightweight top bedding that is easy to manage.
Profiling Bed Fitted Sheets
A correctly sized fitted sheet helps keep the mattress covered as the bed changes position. The sheet should fit the full width, length and depth of the mattress without being excessively tight.
Our adjustable bed fitted sheets have deep corners and an elasticated hem to help them stay securely positioned. They are available in easy-care poly cotton, breathable cotton, brushed cotton and luxury cotton fabrics.
Because profiling-bed mattress dimensions vary, we can also manufacture fitted sheets for non-standard sizes.
Semi-Fitted Top Sheets
A standard flat sheet can pull upwards, bunch around the legs or come untucked when a profiling bed is raised.
A semi-fitted top sheet remains open at the head end like a traditional flat sheet but has deep fitted corners and elastic around the foot end.
This helps keep the lower part of the sheet in place while still allowing the sleeper to move comfortably and the bed to be raised.
Mattress Protectors
A mattress protector can help guard the mattress against spills, perspiration, stains and everyday wear.
Our breathable waterproof mattress protectors are soft, quiet and available in a wide choice of standard and unusual sizes.
Important: If the bed has an alternating-air mattress or another specialist pressure-relieving mattress, check the bed or mattress manufacturer’s instructions before using a fitted protector, thick padded protector or multiple bedding layers.
How to Measure a Profiling-Bed Mattress
Do not assume that every homecare or hospital-style bed takes a standard UK single sheet. Measure the mattress directly while it is lying flat.
- Measure the width from one side of the mattress to the other.
- Measure the length from the head end to the foot end.
- Measure the depth from the top surface to the bottom edge of the mattress.
- Check the mattress shape and whether it is divided into separate sections.
- Check the manufacturer’s label for any specific bedding instructions.
Many profiling-bed mattresses are approximately 90 × 200cm, but narrower, wider, longer and bespoke sizes are also used. Always order using the actual mattress measurements.
Choose the Right Fabric
Easy-Care Poly Cotton
Easy-care poly cotton is a practical choice when bedding will be washed frequently. It dries relatively quickly, requires less ironing than pure cotton and is suitable for everyday use.
100% Cotton Percale
Cotton percale feels cool, crisp and breathable. It is a good option for sleepers who prefer natural fibres or tend to feel warm during the night.
Brushed Cotton
Brushed cotton has a warmer, softer feel and can be particularly comfortable during colder months.

Made-to-Measure Bedding for Profiling Beds
Profiling and care-bed mattresses are not always made to standard bedding dimensions. A sheet that is too small may pull away from the corners, while an excessively large sheet can wrinkle or bunch beneath the sleeper.
Victoria Linen can manufacture bedding to your required mattress width, length and depth. This is particularly useful for:
- Long single profiling beds
- Narrow care beds
- Extra-deep mattresses
- Unusual homecare-bed sizes
- Older or discontinued bed models
- Mattresses that differ from the advertised frame size
For an unusual mattress, contact us with the width, length and depth in centimetres and we will help you select the most suitable size.
Profiling Beds and Domestic Adjustable Beds
Both profiling beds and domestic adjustable beds allow the sleeping surface to change position. However, domestic adjustable beds are usually purchased for comfort and lifestyle, while profiling beds are often selected to assist with care, access or positioning.
If you have an Adjustamatic, Oak Tree Mobility, Theraposture or similar domestic electric bed, visit our main adjustable bed bedding department.
If you have a care, nursing, homecare or hospital-style bed, the products on this page have been selected to help you find practical bedding in the correct size.
Bedding for Care Providers
We also supply sheets, mattress protectors and made-to-measure bedding to care homes, supported living providers and other care organisations.

Frequently Asked Questions
What size sheets fit a profiling bed?
There is no single profiling-bed sheet size. Many mattresses are around 90 × 200cm, but the width, length and depth can vary between manufacturers. Measure the mattress itself before ordering.
Are profiling beds the same size as standard single beds?
Not necessarily. A standard UK single mattress is normally 90 × 190cm, whereas many profiling-bed mattresses are longer. Profiling mattresses may also have unusual widths or depths.
Can I use an ordinary fitted sheet on a profiling bed?
You can use a fitted sheet if it matches the mattress dimensions and allows the mattress to move correctly. A sheet that is too tight may pull away from the corners, while one that is too loose may bunch underneath the sleeper.
What is the best top sheet for a profiling bed?
A semi-fitted top sheet is a useful option. It remains open at the head end but fits around the foot of the mattress, helping it stay in place when the bed is raised.
Do you make sheets for hospital beds used at home?
Yes. We can make fitted and semi-fitted sheets for many home hospital beds, homecare beds and electric profiling beds. Supply the mattress width, length and depth if the size is not listed.
Can you make bedding for an unusual profiling-bed mattress?
Yes. Victoria Linen specialises in non-standard bedding and can manufacture sheets to fit unusual mattress widths, lengths and depths.
Can I use a waterproof mattress protector on a profiling bed?
A correctly sized protector may be suitable for many conventional profiling-bed mattresses. For an alternating-air or specialist pressure-relieving mattress, follow the mattress manufacturer’s instructions before adding a protector or padded bedding layer.
Do you supply care homes?
Yes. We supply individual customers, care homes and other care providers. Made-to-measure and multiple-bed orders are available.
