Who Needs a 60cm Extra Deep Fitted Sheet?
A 60cm fitted sheet is intended for beds that are too deep for an ordinary 40cm or 50cm pocket. It is particularly useful for exceptionally thick luxury mattresses, heavily padded pillow-top beds and mattresses combined with deep protectors and toppers.
Our 60cm extra deep fitted sheets are generally recommended for a complete mattress depth of approximately 44–53cm. The remaining pocket depth allows fabric to reach underneath the mattress so the elasticated hem can grip securely.
You may need a 60cm fitted sheet if:
- Your 50cm fitted sheet is difficult to pull over the corners
- The elastic sits against the side of the mattress
- You have an exceptionally deep pillow-top or hybrid mattress
- A thick topper substantially increases the total bed depth
- Your fitted sheet repeatedly slips off despite using an extra-deep pocket
Is a 60cm Fitted Sheet the Same as a 24-Inch Sheet?
A 60cm pocket is approximately 23.6 inches deep, so it is commonly described as a 24-inch deep fitted sheet. The two descriptions normally refer to the same approximate sheet depth.
The 60cm measurement describes the full pocket depth of the sheet, not the maximum mattress height. Some of the material needs to sit underneath the mattress, so a 60cm fitted sheet is generally better suited to mattresses measuring approximately 44–53cm.
How to Measure for a 60cm Deep Fitted Sheet
Measure the complete depth of the bed before ordering. Include every layer that will remain underneath the fitted sheet, including the mattress protector and topper.
- Remove the duvet and existing fitted sheet.
- Leave the mattress protector and topper in place.
- Measure vertically from the bottom of the mattress to its highest point.
- Measure at several points if the mattress has a rounded or heavily padded top.
- Choose a pocket depth that leaves enough material to tuck underneath.
If the complete depth is approximately 44–53cm, a 60cm fitted sheet should normally provide a secure fit. If your bed measures less than approximately 44cm, a 50cm deep fitted sheet may provide a neater fit.
If the complete bed measures more than approximately 53cm, contact us with the width, length and depth. As a specialist UK manufacturer, we may be able to make a fitted sheet with a deeper bespoke pocket.
Should You Choose a 50cm or 60cm Fitted Sheet?
| Measured Mattress Depth | Suggested Sheet Depth | Typical Use |
|---|---|---|
| Up to approximately 27cm | 35cm | Moderately deep modern mattresses |
| Approximately 28–33cm | 40cm | Deep, hybrid and pillow-top mattresses |
| Approximately 34–43cm | 50cm | Very thick mattresses and beds with substantial toppers |
| Approximately 44–53cm | 60cm | Exceptionally deep and heavily layered beds |
Choose a 50cm pocket when the complete mattress depth is approximately 34–43cm. Move up to 60cm when the combined mattress, protector and topper measure approximately 44–53cm.
If the measurement is close to the boundary between two depths, the deeper option will usually be easier to fit and provide more material underneath the mattress.
60cm Fitted Sheets for Mattresses with Thick Toppers
Some modern beds combine an already deep mattress with a substantial memory foam, feather, down or hollowfibre topper. These additional layers can make the bed too deep for even a 50cm fitted sheet.
Always measure the mattress and topper together. For example, a 45cm mattress combined with a 5cm topper has a complete depth of approximately 50cm and should normally require a 60cm pocket.
A 60cm fitted sheet allows the fabric to cover the complete layered mattress while still leaving material underneath for the elasticated edge to grip.
Why Do Extra-Deep Fitted Sheets Still Come Off?
An extra-deep fitted sheet can still come away from the corners if the mattress and topper are deeper than the available pocket. If almost all the fabric is needed to cover the mattress side, the elasticated hem cannot reach underneath and hold securely.
A correctly sized 60cm fitted sheet provides enough material to:
- Cover an exceptionally thick mattress
- Fit around heavily padded or rounded corners
- Accommodate substantial toppers and protectors
- Reach underneath the mattress
- Reduce slipping, lifting and bunching
Choosing the correct pocket depth creates a smoother sleeping surface and reduces the need to pull the corners back into place.

Frequently Asked Questions
What mattress depth will a 60cm fitted sheet fit?
Our 60cm fitted sheets are generally recommended for mattresses measuring approximately 44–53cm deep. This leaves additional material to tuck underneath and helps the elasticated hem remain securely in place.
Is a 60cm fitted sheet approximately 24 inches deep?
Yes. A 60cm pocket is approximately 23.6 inches deep and is commonly described as a 24-inch deep fitted sheet.
Can I use a 60cm fitted sheet on a 60cm mattress?
We would not normally recommend it because the sheet needs additional material to tuck underneath. If your mattress measures 60cm deep, contact us about a bespoke fitted sheet with a deeper pocket.
Should I choose a 50cm or 60cm fitted sheet?
Choose a 50cm sheet when the complete mattress depth is approximately 34–43cm. A 60cm fitted sheet is generally more suitable when the mattress, protector and topper measure approximately 44–53cm.
Will a 60cm fitted sheet fit over a mattress topper?
It can, provided the combined depth of the mattress, protector and topper is no more than approximately 53cm. Measure all the layers together before choosing the sheet.
Are the products on this page all 60cm deep?
The products are available with a choice of 40cm, 50cm and 60cm pockets. Open your preferred fabric and select 60cm under “Depth of Sheet” before ordering.
Why does my 60cm fitted sheet keep coming off?
The complete bed may be deeper than expected, leaving too little material underneath for the elastic to grip. Re-measure the mattress, protector and topper together and contact us if the total depth exceeds approximately 53cm.
Can you make a fitted sheet deeper than 60cm?
We manufacture specialist bedding in our Lancashire factory and may be able to make a deeper bespoke fitted sheet. Contact us with the mattress width, length and complete depth to discuss the required size.
