What is a Bed Base Cover?

Creating a cohesive and polished look in your bedroom often involves more than just picking the right sheets and duvet cover. One often overlooked element that can make a big difference is how you deal with the bed base.

This simple addition covers the base of your bed and if done right can enhance the aesthetic of the entire room while offering functional benefits like added protection and cleanliness. Bed base covers go by various names, such as divan bed base covers, mattress base covers, or simply bed wraps, plus they come in different styles to suit your practical needs.

Bed base covers are available in a variety of types, each with its unique look and application. From sleek bed base wraps to classic valances, these covers allow you to easily elevate the look of your bed while hiding unsightly bed legs or storage underneath.

Let’s deep dive into the different types of bed base covers and how they can enhance your bedroom.

Types of Bed Base Covers

There are several types of bed base covers, each with its unique style and functionality. Let’s explore some popular options:

1. Bed Base Wraps

A bed base wrap is an elasticated fabric wrap that fits snugly around the base of a divan bed. Made from stretchy materials, like jersey or polyester, bed base wraps are easy to put on and remove, making them a convenient option for anyone who likes to refresh their bedroom look without heavy lifting. Available in a range of colours and patterns, bed base wraps can match or contrast with bedding, adding style without much effort. They’re also ideal for modern bedrooms, as they offer a sleek, minimalist finish.

2. Easy Fit Valances

Easy fit valances are another type of bed base cover designed for simplicity and convenience. Unlike traditional valances that may require lifting the mattress to fit, easy fit valances wrap around the base with minimal hassle. They’re typically equipped with Velcro fastenings or elastic bands, allowing for a snug fit without much effort. This type of cover is popular for anyone who enjoys changing their bedroom décor seasonally, as they can be applied or removed in minutes. Easy fit valances provide a sophisticated drape around the bed, offering the look of a traditional valance but with modern ease.

3. Fitted Valance Sheets

A fitted valance sheet combines the functions of a fitted sheet and a bed base cover in one piece. These sheets cover both the mattress and the base, with a skirt or drape that extends around the bottom. This option is especially convenient for those who want to cover the bed base without using separate pieces. Fitted valance sheets are available in a variety of styles, from simple skirts to ruffled or pleated designs, giving plenty of options to match different interior themes. They add a classic, elegant touch to the bedroom and are ideal for creating a layered, cosy look.

4. Bed Base Valances

Bed base valances are traditional covers that drape around the entire bed base, reaching down to the floor. They can be fitted onto the bed by placing them between the mattress and the base, allowing the valance to hang freely along the sides. These valances are often pleated, giving them a timeless, tailored look that’s perfect for classic and luxurious bedroom styles. Bed base valances can hide storage under the bed, adding a neat finish to the room while keeping hidden items out of sight. They are available in various fabrics, from crisp cotton to rich heavier fabrics, adding texture and elegance to any bed.

Choosing the Right Bed Base Cover for Your Room

When selecting a bed base cover, consider factors such as ease of application, style preferences, and how often you change your décor. Bed base wraps and easy fit valances are perfect for those who prioritize convenience, as they can be applied and removed easily. If you’re looking for an all-in-one solution, fitted valance sheets are ideal, as they cover both the mattress and the base in one. For a more traditional look, bed base valances offer a classic and sophisticated appeal.
