If you thought all beds and mattresses were the same sizes the world over – you might be surprised to hear that there are a few differences, particularly when it comes to UK vs US bedding sizes.

If you’re more familiar with UK beds, you’ll probably know the general sizing of mattresses and duvets. Our sizing starts with sheets to fit a ‘Single’ bed. This is typically for one person, either an adult or a child. Next is a ‘Double’ bed, which has room for two people but is often used in rooms with limited space.

‘King-size’ is again larger, popular for couples and features in many British bedrooms. But the ‘Super-King’ tops this and is often one of the biggest mattresses UK companies produce.

However, it’s not the biggest by far. The Emperor and Caesar bed holds that title. In between these sizes, there are also other options such as small doubles, super kings and small singles, among others.

 

US bedding sizes

If you thought the range of bed sizes was vast in the UK, the US offers a similar array but on a different scale. Starting with the ‘Twin’ bed, this is the smallest size but is still larger than our ‘Single’. The ‘Twin XL’ and ‘Small Double’ follow, with a ‘Full’ bed matching our ‘Double’ sizing.

Next up are the ‘Queen’ and ‘King’ sizes, which are larger than the UK equivalent. The ‘California King’ is comparable to our ‘Super King’ sizing within a few inches. However, if you’re looking to supersize your sleeping area, the ‘Alaska King’, ‘Texas King’ and Wyoming King’ certainly make the cut.
