Bed Linen Made for Standard and Unusual Bed Sizes

Bed sizes vary considerably, particularly once you move beyond the most common UK single, double, king and super king mattresses. European beds are often manufactured to metric dimensions, while adjustable beds, extra-long beds and oversized mattresses can require their own specialist bedding.

We manufacture much of our bedding in the UK, which allows us to offer a far wider choice of dimensions than standard off-the-shelf bed linen. This is particularly useful when you have a mattress that is longer, wider or deeper than usual.

If you have a standard UK bed, start with one of our main size collections:

European and Metric Bed Sizes

A European mattress can look very similar to a UK bed while having different measurements. Common sizes include 80 × 200cm, 90 × 200cm, 140 × 200cm, 160 × 200cm and 180 × 200cm.

If your mattress is measured in centimetres rather than traditional UK feet and inches, visit our European and IKEA bedding collection before choosing your bedding. Selecting by the actual mattress measurements helps avoid fitted sheets that are too short or too loose.

Bedding for Large and Oversized Beds

Using bedding made for the mattress dimensions is especially important on very large beds. Simply moving up to the next conventional bedding size does not always give the correct proportions or fit.

Bedding for Adjustable and Specialist Beds

Bed size is not always the only consideration. Adjustable and profiling beds may require bedding designed to remain in position while the mattress moves, while sofa beds, caravan beds, round beds and other specialist mattresses can have dimensions that do not correspond to a conventional UK size.

For these beds, shopping by the actual mattress width, length and depth is usually the safest approach.

Don't Forget Your Mattress Depth

The width and length of your mattress determine the bed size, but a fitted sheet also needs enough depth to fit around the sides of the mattress and tuck securely underneath.

Modern mattresses, pillow-top designs and mattresses used with toppers can be considerably deeper than expected. Many of our fitted sheets are therefore available in a choice of depths, including options for deep and extra-deep mattresses.

Measure from the top surface of the mattress to the bottom edge before ordering, including any permanent topper that will sit underneath the fitted sheet.

Are UK and European bed sizes the same?
