Modern mattresses are often considerably deeper than traditional mattresses. Pillow-top construction, hybrid layers, mattress toppers and padded protectors can all increase the total height of the bed.
A standard fitted sheet may stretch over the top of a deep mattress but still fail to stay in place because there is not enough fabric remaining underneath for the elasticated edge to grip.

How Deep Should My Fitted Sheet Be?
Start by measuring the mattress vertically from its bottom edge to its highest point. Leave any mattress topper or protector in place if it will sit underneath the fitted sheet.
The fitted sheet pocket should be deeper than the mattress itself. The additional fabric is important because part of the sheet needs to reach underneath the mattress so the elasticated edge can hold it securely.
- Remove your existing sheet.
- Leave any topper or protector in place.
- Measure from the bottom of the mattress to its highest point.
- Measure in more than one place if the mattress has a rounded or pillow top.
- Choose a fitted sheet depth that leaves enough fabric to tuck underneath.
If your measurement falls close to the limit of one depth, moving up to the next option can provide additional tuck-under and make the sheet easier to fit.

What Is the Deepest Fitted Sheet?

These 60cm extra deep fitted sheets are designed for exceptionally deep mattresses and heavily layered beds where even a 50cm fitted sheet does not leave enough fabric to sit securely underneath the mattress.
For most deep mattresses, however, the deepest possible sheet is not necessarily the best choice. A correctly matched pocket depth normally gives a neater and more secure fit.
35cm or 40cm Deep Fitted Sheets?
A 35cm pocket is a useful step up from many standard fitted sheets and suits mattresses that need additional depth without requiring an ultra-deep sheet.
For thicker pillow-top, hybrid or heavily padded mattresses, a 40cm deep fitted sheet provides additional room and approximately a 16-inch pocket.
The key is not simply the stated mattress depth: you also need enough sheet fabric left beneath the mattress for the elasticated hem to grip.
When Do I Need a 50cm Deep Fitted Sheet?
A 50cm deep fitted sheet has an approximately 20-inch pocket and is intended for particularly thick mattresses, substantial pillow tops and beds used with deep mattress toppers.
This is a better option when a conventional deep fitted sheet still pulls away from the corners or leaves very little fabric tucked beneath the mattress.

When Would I Need a 60cm Extra Deep Fitted Sheet?
Our 60cm extra deep fitted sheets are the deepest standard option in this collection.
They are intended for exceptionally deep mattresses, heavily padded beds or mattress-and-topper combinations where a 50cm pocket still does not provide sufficient tuck-under.
Because a 60cm fitted sheet is extremely deep, we recommend measuring carefully before ordering rather than automatically choosing the largest pocket.
Deep Fitted Sheets for Mattress Toppers
Adding a topper can make an otherwise standard mattress significantly deeper. If your fitted sheet started coming off after adding a topper, the combined depth is probably greater than the sheet was designed to accommodate.
Measure the mattress and topper together and choose a fitted sheet that covers the complete depth while still leaving material underneath the mattress.
Depending on the thickness of the mattress and topper, this may mean moving from a standard sheet to a 35cm or 40cm pocket, or choosing a 50cm or 60cm option for particularly deep combinations.

One of the most common reasons a fitted sheet repeatedly slips from the corners is that the pocket is too shallow.
